January is National Mentor Month and the Wyakin Foundation is proud to partner with many fantastic community and professional mentors.
The warrior/mentor relationship is fundamental to the Wyakin Foundation mission. Warriors and mentors form close, personal bonds, developing relationships that provide meaning for years to come.
Mentorship is the first tenet listed in the Wyakin Foundation program, and we take it seriously, pairing our veterans with two separate mentors to support their journey.

The community mentor match happens when a veteran enrolls in the Wyakin Foundation programs. Community mentors serve as a trusted friend to support a veteran as they navigate life’s challenges, identify what inspires and excites them, and provides support.
Professional mentors are paired with a veteran as they approach graduation and prepare to move into their next career. Professional mentors are within the veteran’s chosen industry and leverage their professional networks to empower the veteran as they look for career opportunities. Professional mentors provide key insight that can make a world of difference.
Mentorship Expectations
Are you considering becoming a mentor? Here are some of the mentorship expectations and how to apply.
- Mentorships are typically one-on-one relationships with one veteran per mentor.
- Community mentors are asked to give 1 hour a month for a face-to-face meeting in addition to regular communication (texts, calls, or emails) throughout the month.
- Community mentors will support a veteran for the duration they are in the Wyakin Foundation program, an average of 3 years.
- Professional mentors support a veteran for a duration of 1 year and do not have set meeting requirements

We would like to take a moment to thank the current community mentors who give their time and knowledge to the Wyakin Foundation! The Wyakin Foundation would not be the same without all of you. Thank you for giving your time, talents, and support to our veterans.
